Growing alongside Portuguese industry

We began operating in Portugal in 1993 as Quimialmel’s first international subsidiary, initially serving sectors such as ceramics, paints, glass and galvanising. Since then, we have continued to diversify our offering, expand our facilities and develop new capabilities to meet the needs of a growing range of industrial sectors.

From our base in Albergaria-a-Velha, we combine in-depth knowledge of the Portuguese market with close customer relationships and industrial capabilities of our own, particularly in silicate production. Our integration into Quimialmel’s international network and Materia Holding’s shared capabilities enables us to provide more responsive, comprehensive solutions tailored to each customer’s needs.

Our evolution

From local distribution to an international industrial ecosystem

1977

Fernando Quintana Tárrega and José Almela Segarra founded Quimialmel in Castellón de la Plana to supply raw materials to companies in the local agricultural sector.

1993

We opened our first subsidiary in Portugal, marking the beginning of Quimialmel’s international expansion and a relationship with the Portuguese market that continues to grow today.

1998

Quimialmel Italia was established as a strategic subsidiary, bringing our international sourcing network closer to the market and significantly strengthening the Group’s presence within Italian industry.

2000

The company expands its structure, adds new capabilities and enters a new stage of professionalisation, diversification and internationalisation.

2023

Quimialmel’s evolution as a group led to the creation of Materia Holding, a structure that brings together industrial, logistics and technical capabilities under a shared vision.

TODAY

Almost five decades later, we continue to move forward with the same commitment: understanding the needs of industry and turning them into reliable solutions, built on close relationships and able to evolve alongside each market.
